Afghan Journal of Theology, Vol. 1
The Bible, known as the Word of God and referred to as the Bible (collection of books) in English, comprises 66 books divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament contains 39 books originally written in Hebrew, while the New Testament consists of 27 books written in Greek. The Bible has been translated from Hebrew and Greek into hundreds of world languages to date.
Unfortunately, we only had the New Testament available in Dari, translated in the solar year 1361 (1982 AD), and a complete translation of the Bible into Dari did not exist until recently. Afghans who were eager and interested in reading the Word of God could only use Bible translations in Persian, English, and other languages.
We are grateful to God for providing us with the current translation of the Bible in Dari, fully translated in 2008. It's noteworthy that this book was prepared through years of hard work by scholars and linguists of our country, Afghanistan. In the current translation, significant effort was made to present God's Word in the understandable and sweet language of Dari, ensuring no compromise was made to the original and pure text.
The Bible was written by forty authors inspired by God over 1600 years. The authors of the Bible lived in different times and places and had various backgrounds, yet they convey a common message from start to finish, "God's effort to find and save lost humans." Thus, we can say that the sole author of the Bible is the one true God.
The Old Testament is divided into four parts: the Torah, historical writings, Psalms, and prophetic writings. The Old Testament serves as a preparation and prophecy phase for the New Testament. In the Old Testament, God spoke to humans through prophets, but in the New Testament, God's Word took human form in Jesus Christ and spoke to us.
The New Testament, also referred to as the Gospel (good news about Christ) by Afghans, is essentially the era of the fulfillment of God's promises made in the Old Testament. Alternatively, the Old Testament is summarized and fulfilled in the New Testament or the Gospel. The New Testament consists of five parts: the life history of Jesus Christ, the history of the early Church, Paul's epistles, the epistles of other apostles, and Revelation.
We hope that readers of the Bible will enjoy the abundant blessings of God's Word.
