When we study the Torah, the Psalms, and the writings of the prophets, we learn that the word of God instructs us about the Day of Judgement. For example, the Prophet Daniel says about the Day of Judgement: "And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt."¹
Thus, the Prophet Daniel declares that there is a Day of Judgement, and on that day the dead will rise again: some will attain eternal life, and others will rise to be judged for their deeds, leading to their disgrace and humiliation.
In the Holy Gospel, Jesus refers to this verse and says: "For an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment."²
Jesus emphasizes that the Day of Judgement is coming, and on that day, by His command, all the dead will be resurrected for judgment - some for eternal life and the wicked for condemnation. Moreover, it is Jesus Christ who will judge everyone on that day.³
You might wonder what the criteria for judgement will be on the Day of Judgement. The Holy Gospel tells us that God sent Jesus to save humanity. He is the light that rescues people from darkness, evil, and wickedness.
So, we read, "And this is the judgement: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed."⁴
Therefore, Jesus not only continues the teachings of the prophets about the Day of Judgement, but also demonstrates that all the writings of the prophets are fulfilled and completed in Him. Jesus is the one who will return on the Day of Judgement. He will judge and adjudicate everyone, and faith in Him is the only way to attain eternal life.
